Sacrament Preparation

Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation are a joint effort on the part of the child, the parents and the catechist. Class-time, parent meetings, parent participation, retreats mass participation and prayer are all necessary ingredients for a meaningful initiation into these sacramental experiences. Faith formation regarding the sacraments has a two-fold task: to aid in the understanding of the sacraments themselves and to foster a conscious realization of the connection between an individual’s life and the sacramental life of the Church (Diocese of Joliet Handbook)

Confirmation

Candidates for Confirmation must have completed two consecutive years of formation in order to receive the sacrament. Preparation includes class attendance on Thursday nights, works of service, choosing a name and a sponsor, and other activities discussed more fully in the Confirmation handbook. Family members and sponsors should be involved in the candidates preparation including regular mass attendance, prayer, assistance with class assignments and works of service. Candidates should have already completed the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Eucharist. Special preparation including extra formation sessions may be necessary to receive these sacraments.
